Best Learning Experience: Very early on in my marketing career I wasn't that focussed on the detail (I'm a big picture person, the details will take care of themselves - or so I thought). I was preparing a direct marketing campaign for 100,000 customers. 100,000 letters were to be posted to customers suggesting individual products for them to purchase in addition to the products they regularly bought. Well, I wasn't clear with my instructions and I didn't have checks in place - 30,000 of the 100,000 letters were wrong - they had the wrong offer that didn't make any sense to the customer! So the learning was Don’t expect others to complete a task like you would do yourself – always check what is required, check the understanding of the instructions and inspect afterwards!

Best Learning Experience: I have been working hard for 33 years to get enough experience to serve business owners faithfully through Business Mastery and every day I seem to learn something - I did again today– so this is a tough heading to serve in a really short space. I have seen fabulous people fail or limit their success because they tried to do everything themselves. I have seen people fail because they had only systems with uninspired staff and they believed they did not need to do anything themselves. My lessons have shown me that it is a combination of people, processes and culture that make the biggest difference. So my best learning is from the dozens and dozens of businesses I have served to improve over the past 33 years – I can isolate none, each one has delivered a learning gem.
