Life coaching set to become fastest-growing industry in Australia says one of Australia's first accredited life-coaching trainers.
The National College of Coaching in Surfers Paradise"s Chevron Renaissance is one of Australia's first training providers to be accredited to offer a Life Coaching qualification, with courses starting this month.
Following trends in the USA, coaching is one of the fastest growing industries in Australia, says National College of Coaching Director Danyelle Mailer.
'We are following the growing trend in the United States where being a coach is an increasingly respected and highly paid profession,' Danyelle said.
Courses for the Certificate IV in Life Coaching start on 31 October and can be completed full time, part time or on weekends at the National College of Coaching, which is linked to the National College of Business.
'An increasing number of people are looking for employment alternatives with unlimited income, more flexibility and greater job satisfaction,' Danyelle said.
'The idea of job security is not what it used to be, so people are looking for ways to take control of their own lives. People who have expertise and experience in all sorts of areas are becoming life coaches,' she said.
The National College of Coaching coaches world class coaches in all areas of life, including wealth, relationships, business, health, leadership and mentoring in a combination of face-to-face tutorials and self-paced modules.
'You can take up to 12 months to complete the courses and assessments and you could be recognised for your previous studies, work experiences and skills.'
Gretel Breytenbach juggles her own home-based life coaching business, Living Dynamix, with her role as mother of 9-year-old son Greg.
'It is a business you can design around your life,' Gretel said. ' 'Life coaching fits in perfectly around life because you can choose when and where you see your clients. It gives me the flexibility to choose my own working hours to fit around whatever I am doing.
'To be a life coach, the main ingredient is being passionate about people,' Gretel said. 'A life coach helps people focus on what they want to achieve. The person coaching needs to be well balanced and stable as a foundation.
'Being a life coach means helping people realise what they want and encouraging them to work towards their goals in a series of small, achievable steps. Then suddenly, when their grand prize materialises and they get the reward, they think 'Wow! How did that happen''' Gretel said.
Mentor to senior managers and managing directors, Mark Sneddon, is speaking at the College in November and helps many stay on track with their goals.
Mark said. 'There are counselors, life coaches and mentors and each role is quite different.
'The role of a counselor is to help people with specific emotional challenges. Maybe they are going through a bad break up or the loss of a family member.
'The role of a life coach is to draw information out of a client. As you talk about issues you bring the client to clarity about an issue and they almost solve their own challenges.
'A coach does not need experience in the area they are coaching in. In fact, coaching is about asking the right questions and drawing out what is already in the mind of a client, it's not about being an expert.' Mark said.
Mark Sneddon will share his success tips at the College's regular event, Club Success, on Wednesday 2 November from 6pm to 9pm. Club Success is free for first-time visitors. To register, call (07) 5538 1905.
Mark will demonstrate how to reframe every challenging event as a precious gift to move forward with. Mark became a leading mentor by falling into, and climbing out of, just about every hole imaginable.
He will share his story - from having his monthly sales halved in 30 days by runaway employees, to having 11 properties and his car repossessed, to his wife leaving him with three small children, to becoming homeless and living on the streets, to going to hospital and almost having his leg amputated' then rebuilding a successful business and now assisting others.
