How to Make 2012 Your Most Remarkable Year Yet
Thu, 8 Dec 11
For many business owners 2011 has been one of the most challenging years in business for a long time. If you are ready to put 2011 behind you and create a year ahead that produces results like you have never seen before, now is the time to start planning and preparing for that to happen.
The difference between a dream and results is having a plan in place...and knowing how to execute on that plan. In our recent NCB Webinar we discussed 10 ways to make 2012 remarkable and what you should keep front of mind when planning for your best year yet. Here are some tips from the session to get you on track for your new year of business…
- Celebrate – Before you get into thinking about the future of your business take some time to celebrate your 2011 wins. These may have been small or large but each win you have had as a person, team or business is going to impact your future, so celebrate these and acknowledge what you have done great. Keep track of what personal and professional development has been made and where you have seen results. You can learn from these just as you learn from the tougher times about what works and what needs improvement.
- Clarify – Work out your Top 5 goals for the whole year. Make them specific and measurable and based on what you value most in life personally and professionally. Your values drive your behaviour so what is important to you should dictate what you do in 2012.
- Visualise – Make your Top 5 goals visual. Stick them where you will see them so you are constantly reminded of where you are going and why. If you can’t see your goals visually, you are less likely to reach them. You may still complete one or two from memory, but your best chance at completing your whole Top 5 is if you can see them and tick them off as you go. This will also be great for motivating yourself on a daily basis. Also take time to visualise yourself as the person you want to be in 12 months time. If you spend time each week thinking about that person, the great results they have met and the things they are doing, you’ll eventually see that person come out in yourself.
- Stepped Plan – “A dream without a plan is just a fantasy.” Work your goals into a yearly, monthly, weekly or daily plan – whatever suits the objective. Without a step-by-step guide to reaching each goal, you won’t know how to get there.
- Busy v REAL valuable work – Now, more than ever, it is important to remove distractions from your world. With emails, social media, phone calls, etc causing distractions to your day, you can’t possibly spend time on the areas that matter and that you have indicated are your Top 5. Allocate time aside for these things and spend the greater part of your day when you are at your peak energy and motivational levels working towards the goals that really matter.
The only thing we can be certain of is that 2012 will be uncertain. The best way to succeed is therefore to be remarkable. If you shake things up and disrupt the market before external forces do it for you, then you will be in control of where you are at and can adjust to anything that comes your way.
