Couples get down to business on the couch
Fri, 26 Feb 10

As part of the National College of Business’ couples series, three of Brisbane’s top power couples took their places on the couch to talk business.
Addressing the topic “How to thrive not just survive in business as a couple”, owners of the National College of Business Jon and Danyelle Mailer, who were also one of the featured couples, said the workshop was a no-holds-barred forum for couples.
“A significant percentage of Australian businesses are owned by couples,” Danyelle said.
“Even still, couples in business lack the practical support to ensure their partnership, both at home and at work remains healthy, but if they can tap into their own collective power, the potential is enormous.
“Our workshops provide a space for couples to share stories, solutions and a few laughs.”
Using a “live interview” format, the workshop, held at NCB’s Brisbane CBD campus, featured real couples who had successfully “cracked the code” to achieve this delicate balance.
“The workshop looked at the good, the bad and the hilarious moments that come with the territory as couples in business,” Danyelle said.
“Our couples provided insight into what works and what doesn’t.
“It saves others from reinventing the wheel.”
Other featured couples included Kerry and Rowena McEvoy, the Directors of Max International College for Fitness Professionals and winners of BRW’s Fast 100 and Young Rich List along with Dr Kirsten and Graeme Baulch, the Directors of Medimobile and also winners of BRWs Fast 100 along with several Telstra awards and finalists in Yellow Pages Business Owner Awards and the Australian Government Innovation Awards (Qld).
NCB will run its 2010 couples series on a quarterly basis. Upcoming workshops include:
Friday, May 7: “How to Maximise your Health while building your Wealth”
Friday, Aug 6: "How to Build a Brand bigger than Ben Herr”
Friday, Nov 5: “How to Overcome Obstacles in Business and Win”.
All events run from 1:30pm-4:30pm followed with drinks and are offered complimentary to all Business Mastery current participants and their partners, but are open to anyone at a cost of $97. Also, if you are a couple in business, ask NCB about offers on courses that allow paired participation at discounted rates.

This Couples event created new and very interesting conversations in our family - it was great to see and hear how successful couples evolved their successful businesses - to me the how to be successful was as equally important as the lessons learned - great sharing - i recommend this type of series to any couple in business, or thinking about it ...
Would love to come to this couples session but Friday is not good for me or Mark. NCB sessions are always great value.
I am glad for this couples, but I would never mix my spirituality with my business. In my mind, those are two different dimensions.
